My practice:

Yoga has been part of my experience my entire adult life, both on and off the mat. I have been fortunate to have benefitted from a variety of yoga styles in different moments of my life.

I completed both my 200- and 300-hour trainings with Boston Yoga School, and was lucky enough to have studied Iyengar Yoga with Nadja Refaie. I completed a second 200-hour training specific to Yin Yoga, and have studied and practiced both prenatal yoga (I am an RPYT) and yoga for the stages of menopause. I learned to teach Restorative Yoga from Judith Hanson Lasater (I am an advanced Relax and Renew® instructor). My Chair Yoga practices are guided by the teachings of Jivana Heyman and Lakshmi Voelker.

What you can expect from my classes:

My style of yoga is best described as slow yoga for everyone. It is my goal to help you explore yoga in a way that feels accessible, supportive, grounding, and nourishing.

In Flow classes, I approach each month as a unit of study, focusing on a family of poses so that your practice can grow and deepen. In  flow classes, expect a thorough warm up, plank, side plank, backbending, and sun salutations. In Flow and other active forms of yoga (Mixed Levels, Fundamentals, Prenatal Yoga, Chair Yoga, etc.) I am particularly interested in balancing stability and flexibility.

In Yin Yoga, I use props to create a moderate, sustainable experience, and regularly offer meditation and pranayama (breath practices).

In Restorative Yoga, I am focused on centering rest – letting go of stretching and doing – and reconnecting with being.

In Chair Yoga, I center poses that benefit functional movement, and safely challenge balance both through the skeletal-muscular systems and the vestibular system.

In public classes, I want you to know that I often walk around the room so that I can see and work with everyone, and I try to talk as I move so that there are no surprises about where I am.  I prefer to offer props and ask questions instead of doing hands-on assists.  I typically do not play music.

What people say about practicing with me:

"Stacey draws from her deep knowledge of yoga to create a personalized experience. She encouraged me to listen to my body's needs and adapt rather than following a rigid plan. Her approach is gentle, practical and accepting of all body types and levels of fitness. I've taken classes and one on one private sessions and have found Stacey to be an excellent teacher in both settings. Highly recommend."

--Eileen S.

"Stacey is a fantastic teacher and guide to the world of yoga. I had very little experience with yoga, and none at all with Yin Yoga. Stacey is phenomenal at patiently and clearly explaining the poses and their purposes. She checks in with her students throughout the session and fosters a soothing and judgement-free atmosphere. Her classes always lift my spirits and calm my demons."

--Miles R.

"Stacey is very adaptable within a session and able to give several form variations so everyone is able to participate to the fullest. She has been able to provide me a wonderful yoga experience while I’m healthy, if I suffered an injury, and throughout my entire pregnancy."

--Molly M.

"Stacey makes accessing the practice of meditation easy and attainable. I have always found meditation to be overwhelming and at times it can stir up really negative emotions for me, but Stacey is a master at helping you accept those emotions that come up and then find the positives that go with them."

--Taylor G.

"Stacey has an incredible energy for folks without a ton of yoga experience. I went to her as I began to recover from severe back pain and injury. I hadn’t been mobile in years. Stacey spent a lot of time understanding what I could do and what I couldn’t and tailored our sessions for slow but steady progress back to functionality. She was always encouraging, incredibly flexible, and focused on what was right for me. She helped me reconnect my brain and my body. And she’s just so sweet. Two thumbs up!"

--Tracy B.

"Stacey is amazing. Her deep sense of quiet is coupled with humor."

--Kitty C.

"Stacey is thoughtful, engaging and creates a safe and welcoming environment. I recommend her highly!"

--Joanna F.

"Stacey has an extensive background in yoga. She worked with me to develop a sustainable practice that meets my needs. I highly recommend Stacey Jackson-Flammia."
